About Nancy Kurland

Hi, I鈥檓 Nancy B. Kurland, Professor of Organization Studies, and Chair of the Department of Business, Organizations & Society. I have my doctorate in management from University of Pittsburgh, Katz Graduate School of Business, MBAs from Cornell University and from Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and my BA in Political Science from Penn State. Before coming to F&M in 2010, I taught on the management faculties at California State University-Northridge, Pepperdine University, and University of Southern California. I also took five years off during that time to live in the mountains (Mammoth Lakes, CA) to write fiction. 

I teach courses on business and the natural environment, strategy, corporate responsibility & crisis management, and a first year seminar on the business of food. I love being at F&M because it allows me to get to know the students more closely, especially when they take my classes over the years they鈥檙e here. 

My centers on sustainability in management education, as well as the impact of organizations on the social good, from form (e.g., benefit corporations), community engagement, community socio-emotional wealth, and sustainability in supply chains. I鈥檝e published 40 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics ranging from corporate sustainability to telecommuting and ethics in the financial services industry. I received best papers awards in 2023, 2021, and 2015, and was awarded the Kevin E. Ruble Fellowship in Conscious Capitalism in 2017. I also helped found the Center for Sustained Engagement with Lancaster, as well as the .
